D.M.E.S.
 

 

Disability Management and Employability Skills (DMES), teaches participants to deal effectively with employment demands through involvement in group counseling and time-limited, supervised community volunteer placement. DMES emphasizes interpersonal and social adjustment to maintain competitive employment. Focus is placed on the inherent problems related to a specific disability, and coping skills are developed and used to enhance the potential for successful employment.

Groups meet for 12 weeks to cover the following topics:

bulletResolving conflicts at work
bulletDealing with stress at work
bulletDealing with non-work problems at work
bulletJob retention skills
bulletFitting in at work
bulletSocial Skills
 

The program offers: 

bulletAn opportunity to explore how a disability affects job performance
bulletAn opportunity to develop coping strategies
bulletAn opportunity to explore how the type of job and environment may impact job retention
bulletAn opportunity to identify approaches that can be used to design "reasonable accommodations" to better insure job success
bulletAn opportunity to try various modifications and accommodations
bulletAn opportunity to match the needs of the employer and the consumer's expectations
bulletAn opportunity to develop job retention skills and techniques for management of non-work problems at the workplace
bulletOpportunity to apply acquired skills in a paid work setting
