JVS President Elected to Head Ohio Rehabilitation Group

Peter BlochPeter Bloch, president and chief executive officer of the Jewish Vocational Service of Cincinnati, has been elected the 2010 president of the Ohio Association of Rehabilitation Facilities.

The non-profit trade association, based in Columbus, works to advance occupational, vocational and medical rehabilitation facilities.

As the association’s president, Bloch’s goals include strengthening resources for Ohio rehabilitation facilities and enhancing already strong relationships with Gov. Ted Strickland’s Office, key Ohio legislators, the Ohio Rehabilitation Services Commission and other state agencies that support community rehabilitation providers.

Julie Keil, the association’s executive director, said Bloch was clearly the best person to take over the presidency. He is politically savvy, a good networker and has an even disposition, all key qualities for the leadership role.

She also said he has the ability to offer advice in a way that focuses on resolving a problem without being negative.

“I truly look forward to working with him to steer the association and our membership through these tough times,” Keil said.

The association provides policy information to its members about management, accreditation, licensing and government reimbursement. It also offers a discounted continuing education program for rehabilitation specialists. In addition, it lobbies state government, and its political action committee makes donations to political candidates.

Bloch has been on the association’s board since 2004. He helped the association lobby the Ohio Legislature during the latest state budget adoption process by testifying before the Senate Finance Committee. Several years ago, he helped make association membership more affordable by advocating for a sliding scale fee schedule.

Bloch’s term as the association’s president ends December 31, 2010.

Bloch said serving as president will increase JVS’ visibility and bring the agency closer to what’s happening in the state capital.

JVS, based in Blue Ash, primarily helps adults with developmental disabilities by providing training, work and other services, thus boosting their self-esteem and self-sufficiency. It has about 175 employees and serves several thousand people each year.

Bloch has been the top executive at JVS for 12 years. He is a past president of the International Association of Jewish Vocational Services and a past president of the Leadership Council of Human Service Executives in Cincinnati.

Bloch replaces Jim Schaum, former chief executive officer of Rehabilitation Services of North Central Ohio, who served as the association’s president for three years.
