The Jewish Vocational Service (JVS) Board of Trustees approved a series of actions, effective July 1, 2012, that have transformed it into an organization that better focuses its resources on helping members of the Jewish community achieve their career goals.
The newly renamed JVS Career Services will concentrate on expanding the programs currently offered through the Cincinnati Career Network and Hilb Scholarships. The Cincinnati Career Network provides job search and career development services to unemployed and underemployed individuals and serves as a staffing resource to employers. Hilb provides scholarship assistance to college students.
These programs are and will continue to be supported by the Jewish Federation of Cincinnati, the JVS Foundation, and other resources. As JVS Career Services, the organization will be better positioned to play a key role in helping our Jewish community meet the career and business opportunity goals of Cincinnati 2020, an initiative to transform Cincinnati into a model community and Jewish destination.
For more than 65 years, JVS has provided a wide range of vocational, educational, and related services for individuals with developmental disabilities. The JVS board approved combining these publicly funded programs (including the VIP Program which serves members of the Jewish community with developmental disabilities) with Easter Seals Work Resource Center under the Easter Seals brand. The combined organization has been renamed Easter Seals TriState. This is truly a combination of equals; neither is acquiring the other. It positions Easter Seals TriState to better leverage resources locally and nationally and will provide more opportunities for the individuals we have been serving.
Peter Bloch will serve both organizations for the foreseeable future. He will be the CEO of JVS to ensure that the transitions occur as seamlessly and efficiently as possible for all involved. Jody Brant, Dan Feigelson, Bob Oestreicher, Dov Rosenberg, Brian Szames, and Jan Armstrong Cobb will join the Easter Seals TriState Board. Jody Brant will serve as Vice Chair (and will be the next Chair of the Board) and Dan Feigelson will be Secretary.
